About S.O.A.P.
SOAP is a Bible reading method I love. It gets me looking properly at the text, and thinking about what the Holy Spirit might be leading me to consider. Here’s the basics of the 4 steps:
Scripture
Write out the Bible passage you’re looking at, or a selection of it if it’s particularly long. As I’m using a reading plan that is between 2 and 5 chapters per day, I’ll reference the whole passage but select the verses I want to comment on.
Observation
What do you see here? What strikes you in a fresh way this time? What’s the context of the passage? This is the exegesis bit, for those who like fancy words.
Application
How does what I’ve just read apply to my life? Have a think, make some comments about how you’re going to use this part of God-breathed Scripture personally.
Prayer
Not much explanation required here. Pray through the issues God has highlighted to you through doing this reading.
